The next example is what a used creosoted Oak Rail Tie would look like sun weathered as in a post or structure. This one has been a post about 20 years, and was old when pulled by the Mopac years ago.

The next image is of a powerpole after 15 years in the ground. This pole wasn't creosoted because it's illegal now/then.

This is weathered rough sawed oak. It's about 12 years old used as a deck floor. I also included a knot image of a different board. Lots of buildings were made from this lumber in the midwest years ago. It gets very hard and after several years you need to drill a hole to drive a nail. Even deck screws will twist off if you try to run them without a pilot hole.
