I got this from my brother.
It's an HO Brass model of a Boston and Albany D1a 4-6-6T Suburban, imported by International Models in 1956.
It is said that these were the first suburban offered HO.
It looks rough but most of it is there. I have to check with my brother to see if he might have a few of the missing parts. If not most of the missing parts will be substituted or built from scratch. (crossheads, 1 main rod, bottom frame cover, front pilot, generator, pilot and trailing truck and some railings).
I plan to update the drivetrain with a can motor and a new gearbox.
I may also add a little more detail such as piping and better light, bell, generator, whistle, air compressor and pilot castings.

Where in the world can I get can motors W/flywheels or at least long shafts so can put flywheels on them,I've a few can motors but none have an long enough shaft.I have two mantua mikes I want to re-motor,my round house shays were re-motored with Athearn can motors W/flywheels,It makes a world of diff in the way they run.

I got the ugly paint job stripped.
Yep, It's going to be quite a job.
The siderods are worn and will need rebushed.
I have to figure out the drive train also. I plan to use one of the Jonson motors on the feft in the last post. and build a gearbox that uses the original gears so I don't have to pull a wheel off the axle to change the gear.

RAY : Thanks for info,I'ed like to have one of those with the long shaft,a lot of room for worm gear and flywheel,but will try and get a hold of the ones on the right.

Jim,
I get the Jonson motor on the left for $5. It is a high torque , low RPM motor. I would buy a large quantity of them if I could get a better price.
The Mubachi motir on the right is a strong motor for it's size. With a shaft extender on the one end it makes a good motor for diesels with narrow hoods.

No. I soaked it in break fluid and brushed it with a brass wire brush.
If I find myself doing more brass projects like this I may look into getting a bead blaster. It would make the job a lot easier.
